Proverb 28: “Bold as a Lion”

December 28, 2013

“The wicked flee when no man pursues: but the righteous are bold as a lion.” The first verse of Proverb 28 caught my eye today because years ago it fit my situation and it was easy to memorize. I was rolling down the highway in my 18 Wheeler and saw the blue lights flashing ahead, and instead of backing off the cruise and slowing down, I just moved into the left lane and kept my speed the same as it had been all along, 65mph in a 65mph zone. This illustrates the second half of this verse: “The righteous are bold as a lion”. When you are doing right there is no need for backing down the throttle and jumping on the brakes, just smile, keep abiding in Jesus and drive on down the road!

Not only does this verse underline the fact that the righteous should be bold when they are doing right, but in essence their boldness comes from knowing they are under God’s authority when they obey the laws of Civil Government. Staying under authority is the key to continue abiding in Jesus, because He has no communion with REBELS!

After a recent preaching engagement where I emphasized this principle of staying under regardless of the situation, one of the men who heard the message jokingly said his wife was late to our dinner meeting because my message caused her to drive slower from the church to the restaurant. Although it made a timely joke, this is no joking matter, Drivers!

If you want to stay in touch with Jesus throughout the day as you drive, as you walk, as you talk, as you rest etc., you MUST stay under the authority God has given for your blessing and benefit…else you will become an active REBEL!! He has given us a total of eight authority structures and you are always under one of them, so take heed lest you be labeled a REBEL by the God of heaven and you lose your abiding communion with Jesus, the sin causing God to take you away:

Eight Specific Authority Structures & Authority Principles of the New Testament
